Frequently Asked Questions

Will a nomination be considered for more than one year?

Yes. Once submitted, a nomination remains active for three years. It may be reviewed by up to three Selection Committees. Nominators will have the opportunity to update their nomination each year.

Should I tell the nominee that I’m nominating them?

We encourage nominators not to inform the nominee. However, in some cases you may need to request biographical details or background information from them.

Who should support letters be addressed to?

Support letters should be addressed to the Citizen of the Year Selection Committee and must include the writer’s full name and contact information.

What should be included in a support letter?

A strong support letter should:

  • Explain the relationship between the writer and the nominee
  • Describe how long they’ve known the nominee
  • Provide detailed examples of the nominee’s contributions and community impact
  • Be written specifically for the Kaslo Citizen of the Year Award

Are contributions outside Kaslo considered?

The award focuses on contributions that benefit Kaslo and the surrounding area. If the nominee has broader achievements, you may include them, but the nomination should emphasize their local impact.
