DIRECTOR OF FINANCE & CORPORATE SERVICES

Permanent Full-Time

Reporting to and partnering with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Director of Finance & Corporate Services plays a critical role in the administration of the Village of Kaslo. They perform the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in developing, implementing, and overseeing the financial strategy, as well as the role of Corporate Officer (CO) in overseeing corporate and legislative matters.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with demonstrated leadership experience in local government finance who is interested in exerting their influence beyond the financial plan, annual financial statements and municipal report. The Director advises the CAO, Council and staff on best practices, risk management, asset management and innovative approaches to long term planning and sustainable service delivery. They provide leadership in governance, legal matters, legislative & regulatory services, communications, information systems, and aspects of human resources and land administration. As a core member of the senior leadership team, the Director is an advisor to all service areas, evaluating and assisting in every aspect of administration.
 


WHAT YOU BRING

  • Thorough knowledge of municipal finance and accounting principles, practices, procedures and systems, including budgeting best practices and auditing requirements.
  • 10 years of related experience with at least 5 years in a public-sector environment, preferably in a municipal setting.
  • Degree or diploma in accounting, finance, business, public administration or related field, or combination of equivalent training and experience.

PLANNING TECHNICIAN

We are seeking a detail-oriented and community-minded individual to join our team as a Planning Technician. This dynamic role supports land use planning, development services, and municipal operations through a combination of technical, administrative, and customer service tasks.

 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to public and agency inquiries regarding zoning bylaws, land use regulations, and property information.
  • Review development applications for completeness and compliance with local government bylaws and standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of land use history, property descriptions, and address data.
  • Produce zoning and property maps for reports, hearings, and public notices.
  • Input and manage data in GIS and asset management systems.
  • Assist with bylaw administration, including investigations and follow-up coordination.
  • Provide administrative support across departments, including meeting scheduling, minute taking, and reception coverage.
  • Conduct research and compile reports.

 


WHAT YOU BRING

  • Strong knowledge of local government bylaws, zoning regulations, and land development processes.
  • Experience with GIS and mapping systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency is Microsoft office and data management tools.
